Today,I met Mark Chong from the Maternal-Foetal Dept of Obs and Gyn at NUS.
It was a fruitful experience! :D
When I stepped into the building, I walked into the lift and saw this guy at the back, and I was guessing..hmmm maybe that is Mark Chong (you know sixth sense).
So i got to the 4th floor and he stepped out of the lift too. Only thing, I walked into the toilet as I always do before any major meeting or exam. Hahaha. The toilet seems to be my comfort place to pray or sth.
Wells after I got out of the toilet i went to 04-12 and looked around. No one! so i called him and he walked out and said "Oh, i saw you in the lift!".
And so i took off my shoes and went into the lab to chat with him. It was eye-opening and mind expanding!
He told me about the different arms of foetal therapy and stem cell research that they were doing.
Here's some really interesting ones:
- development of non-invasive treatment to diagnose foetal abnormalities
- using stem cells to cure stroke
- using stem cells to genetically manipulate foetus' DNA to correct abnormality
- using stem cells to regenerate tissue scaffolds and reconstruct body parts
- vascular regeneration-using stem cells to make blood vessels
COOLEST!:D
I am really excited about the next 1 and a half years of my life in the research area. I never thought i'd be that excited about research.
All along since Pri 2, I have aspired to be a gynaecologist because every birth is a miracle. And no doubt about that because every life is ordained by Our Abba Father.
The more i look at ultrasound scans, and see each heartbeat of the babies, the more convicted I become about this aspiration!
And now to think of researching in this cutting edge field gives me so much adrenaline!Woo!
Comparing between this and the bacteria effect on risk of diabetes, i really prefer this as there is even more clinical implications!
I will really need to pray and ask God to show me the way so clearly for the next decade or so of my life.
I'm excited for the future cos there are unlimited possibilities and I know I will really enjoy studying and also being involved in the frontier of biomedical science!:)
All of you students out there,
this is my word of advice to you: Study very very very hard. Your education is really your future. If you want to shine for God, there is only one way--to do well in your studies. Because that is your calling and don't allow yourself to get imbalanced or distracted.
Have you ever wondered why Daniel knew so much about Babylonian culture?
Cos he studied their books and culture for 3 whole years! And he came out top of the class! That's why he is able to be so cutting edge in his lifestyle and can win Nebecchanezzer to God!
A shout out to all students!
Let's shine for God and be determined to be top scorers so that we can truly impact the high places in society! :D
